Lyrics
What have you done to me?
You drain the life out of me 'til I don't know myself
When all your faith in reality fades away
Who will you follow?
Are we alone now?
I can't find the way out
Keep waking in the same fever dream
A cure for desire
We're playing with fire
We're drawn to light
We're broken and blinded by it
We're dying for release
If all this fear was born in my mind
I gave you everything you'll ever bе
What have you done to me?
You drain the life out of me 'til I don't know myself
When all your faith in reality fades away
Who will you follow then?
I feel the changes, a crack in the Matrix
Break through the lies like an axe through the screen
You can't stop desire (can't stop desire)
We are the fire
Wake up to the madness
The rats in the wall are already coming through
Lift this twisted veil from our eyes
Forever and ever
What have you done to me?
You drain the life out of me 'til I don't know myself
When all your faith in reality fades away
Who will you follow then?
What have you done to me?
You drain the life out of me 'til I don't know myself
When all your faith in reality fades away, ah
Who will you follow?

DYING TO LOVE // LYRICS
Driving home with nowhere to be
Passing ghosts that tire of sleep
Blurry faces staring at me
They’re staring but they don’t see a thing
I’ve been dying to love, dying to love, dying to love
One more second’s enough, second to love, second to love
Stepping stones that bloody your feet
Sirens holding flowers of teeth
They call your name from ivory streets
But heaven isn’t quite what it seems
I’ve been dying to love, dying to love, dying to love
One more second’s enough, second to love, second to love
They circle over the stain, my essence slipping away
Waiting their turn for a taste
So tell me how does it taste?
And was it all worth the wait? So was it worth what it takes?

"Michelle (Take 1)" is an early studio recording of one of Rubber Soul's most beloved songs, released ahead of The Beatles – Rubber Soul (Special Editions). This intimate first take offers a fascinating glimpse into the song's development, showcasing the band's performance before the final master was completed.
Paul McCartney's original inspiration for "Michelle" dates back to John Lennon's time at Liverpool College of Art, where Paul and George Harrison would often attend student parties. Recalling the song's origins, Paul said:
"One of John's tutors would have parties. At one of these, sitting over in the corner, there was the troubadour in a black sweater doing Jacques Brel songs. So I used to pretend to be French and I had this song that turned out later to be 'Michelle'. So that's where it all started with me having memories of this faux French song."
Recorded during a nine-hour session on 3 November 1965, Take 1 was the only complete performance to survive on the original four-track tape. Presented here without the later overdubs heard on the finished master, it reveals the song in its earliest recorded form. The tape also preserves tantalising fragments of earlier takes that had been recorded over, offering a rare glimpse into the band's creative process.

Music video by The Beatles performing Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape / Visualiser).© 2026 Calderstone Productions Limited (a division of Universal Music Group)
The first version of what was then called “This Bird Has Flown” was recorded during the first day of sessions for Rubber Soul and featured George’s new discovery, the sitar. The band were not happy with this version, so nine days later they taped three more performances.
On take two, track one featured John’s acoustic guitar, Paul’s bass, Ringo on drums and George playing drone notes on sitar. George added more sitar on tracks two and three, with John and Paul’s vocals also recorded on track three. Rather than starting with an instrumental version of the verse melody, as the final version does, this arrangement opens with double-tracked sitar playing the tune of the bridge section.
George had first been exposed to the sound of the sitar during the filming of Help! and became increasingly curious about Indian music. During a meeting with members of The Byrds in Los Angeles, David Crosby spoke about the music of Ravi Shankar, which prompted George to explore his recordings.
George explained how the instrument came to be used: “It felt very familiar to me to listen to that music. Around that time I’d bought a cheap sitar in a shop called Indiacraft in London. When we were working on ‘Norwegian Wood’, it just needed something and it was quite spontaneous. I picked the sitar up and kind of found the notes. We put it on and it seemed to hit the spot and that was it.”
