The In-Display Fingerprint Test - Good or Garbage?

Is this in-display fingerprint technology the future of smartphone security or just a gimmick? This is the first retail implementation of the technology that I've tested and it comes in the form of the Vivo X21. I'm expected we'll see similar tech launch in the upcoming retail version of what was the Vivo Apex.
